etymology - gourmand and gourmet


"gourmand" means someone who is excessively fond of eating and drinking, while "gourmet" someone who is a connoisseur of food and drink.


Does "gour-" mean food?, "-mand" command and demand, and "-met" enjoy?


Etymology says "gourmand" is not connected with "gourmet".

First floor vs ground floor, usage origin

Ground floor – First floor: In British English, the floor of a building which is level with the ground is called the ground floor. The floor above it is called the first floor, the floor above that is the second floor, and so on.
