grammatical number - How do we pronounce the plural form of “kg” in a sentence?



Could you tell me whether we need to say the first or the second of these?



  1. I want three kg of carrots.

  2. I want three kgs of carrots.


Is the first of those two choices the correct way of writing it?

First floor vs ground floor, usage origin

Ground floor – First floor: In British English, the floor of a building which is level with the ground is called the ground floor. The floor above it is called the first floor, the floor above that is the second floor, and so on. In American English, the floor which is level with the ground is called the first floor, the floor above it is the second floor, and so on. To my ear, the first sounds great, and the second is painfully awkward. So which is correct, grammatically? My grandmother, who grew up in western Pennsylvania, pronounced wash and Washington with an intrusive R : “warsh” and “Warshington.” Where does the intrusive R come from in that dialect?
