writing style - Using Hyphens correctly


Would it be acceptable to write the following using the hyphens below:


I am trying to get back to my pre-secret-mistress bliss.


Or should it be:


I am trying to get back to my pre-secret mistress bliss.


Is it ok to write:


It's taunting me like some just-out-of-reach nirvana.


Any advice would be appreciated. I have read a style guide on the subject and am now second-guessing myself. Thank you!

First floor vs ground floor, usage origin

Ground floor – First floor: In British English, the floor of a building which is level with the ground is called the ground floor. The floor above it is called the first floor, the floor above that is the second floor, and so on. In American English, the floor which is level with the ground is called the first floor, the floor above it is the second floor, and so on. usage - "there doesn't seem" vs. "there don't seem"

As an example, consider the two sentences: There don't seem to be any doctors here. and There doesn't seem to be any doctors here. To my ear, the first sounds great, and the second is painfully awkward. So which is correct, grammatically? My grandmother, who grew up in western Pennsylvania, pronounced wash and Washington with an intrusive R : “warsh” and “Warshington.” Where does the intrusive R come from in that dialect?
