grammaticality - "There is X ways to..." vs "There are X ways to..."


I wrote an essay and returned it to my teacher who told me that it was perfect except for that one mistake with the usage of there are:



There are currently 192 218 546 ways to set up..."



She marked it as incorrect. She told me that I should use "is" in lieu of "are".


As I am pretty sure that I have it the right way, I decided to ask the community here this question. I find this community is the most accurate and by far the friendliest.

First floor vs ground floor, usage origin

Ground floor – First floor: In British English, the floor of a building which is level with the ground is called the ground floor. The floor above it is called the first floor, the floor above that is the second floor, and so on. In American English, the floor which is level with the ground is called the first floor, the floor above it is the second floor, and so on. As an example, consider the two sentences: There don't seem to be any doctors here. and There doesn't seem to be any doctors here. To my ear, the first sounds great, and the second is painfully awkward. So which is correct, grammatically?
